What is a good Italian wine for about $15?

Published by at 1:45 pm under italian wine

I mostly drink Pinot Noir and Merlot. I want to buy a few bottles of Italian wine.

Try a Chianti. They generally run around what you’re looking to spend. They are dry and fruity. They go well with meats and Italian foods.

I like Chianti – just pick out one that costs $15.

Try a Primitivo. it’s an Italian red made with the Zinfandel grape, however it’s much lighter than the huge red Zinfandels from California. Mostly you won’t find a Primitivo for over $18 here, probably less where you are. Our liquor prices are high.

If you can get a nebiolo at that price- get it – cause they are usually expensive; also, nebiolo is one of Italys great grapes

Several good ones to try if you can find them in your area are Tenuta le Querce "Il Viola". The grape is Aglianico. La Pieve Chianti classico is very good. Icardi Barbera is a nice food friendly red. For a white try Villa Rosa Gavi.

barbera, aglianico, salice salentino … riserva versions preferably

primitivo is earthier than the cali style zins, not necessarily "lighter"

you can’t get nebbiolo at that price
